The Climate of the Earth is always changing. In
the past it has altered due to natural causes, but today it is
changing as never before as a result of our actions. The problem of
climate change is potentially the most important issue facing
humankind today.

CLIMATE 4 CHANGE is the second open submission
platform for artists/ artivists in all media themed around the
issues/s of climate change and global politics. The show is hosted
by Circle Community Projects. The intervention of 'CLIMATE OF
CHANGE' last year, at a space in Union St, was cited by Gavin Turk
as one of the cultural highlights of '07, and by the critic/curator
Dean Kenning, in a recent essay/review as one of the most challenging
examples in today's contemporary London art scene:

'Cimate of change' is an artist activist-led
project which, embodied a transformational
spirit with regards to art itself specifically
opposing the exclusionary economy of the
London art scene... the glory of 'Climate of
change' was the sheer promiscuous chaos...
the social energy, also played out with artists
who used the situation as an opportunity for
extended conversation, interaction and the
production of work.*

Hi everyone,

NATIVE SPIRIT FESTIVAL
Exhibition:
Indigenous Mosaic and Sculptures, by Freddy Treuquil
Opening Thursday 1pm-7pm (!)
Exhibition Friday - Sunday 1pm-7pm.
Cinema and Music Program:
Thursday
7 pm: Window to my community / Ventana a mi comunidad
8 pm: Our Oil and Other Tales / Nuestro petroleo y otros cuentos
Gabriel Murzio, Venezuela 2002, 83 min
Set in Venezuela, a documentary that delves deep into oil & coal,
examining sovereignty and self-determination through the life
experience of communities, oil workers, and indigenous people.
Friday
7 pm: Last keeper of Delaware Dolls.
Gabriel Whiteturkey, Oklahoma 2003, 14 min
Mah' Wah' Tis ' was a mythic figure among her Delaware Indian
People.
She held a high honour as keeper of her tribe's sacred ceremonials
dolls. She was also the last keeper of these dolls.
8 pm: Not a Game / No es un Joc. Antonio Rosa, Latin America/Spain, 45 min
An important film and a reality we cannot afford to ignore.
Antonio Rosa, accomplished filmmaker and photographer,
travelled across Central and South America documenting
the harsh living and working conditions of its children.
In the streets, the markets, the factories, the fields,
and even at the mines and the rubbish dumps, the exploitation of
children, mostly from poorer indigenous communities, is such a
daily ocurrance and convenience to ruthless employers that at times
parents have to compete with children for the same jobs and even
become dependent on their earnings for survival.
Saturday
7 pm: Medicine of forgiveness. Documentary, Peru, 20 min
A documentary about the use of Ayahuasca and its preparation for
healing purposes.
8 pm We Are The Indians. Phil Cox and Valeria Mapelman,
Uk/Argentina 2004, 68 min
Adultery, identity, 9/11, Hollywood and God, all against the
backdrop of the rainforest. Argentina's last surviving Guarani
Indians reveal some extraordinary stories in this independent
three-year UK/Argentina production.
With its intimate style and compelling characters determined to
speak for themselves, the film takes the viewer into a world rarely
seen, where the death of a culture and a people's fall from God are
matched by indelible humour and breathtaking resilience. An original
and 'must see' feature documentary!
Sunday
7 pm: CARACOLES: New Paths of Resistance Mexico 2003, 42 min.
An open call to join with the Zapatista communities in
their struggle for recognition of their autonomy and intheir fight
against neo-liberal economic policies and globalization.
8 pm: The Canary Effect Robin Davey & Yellow Thunder, UK 2006, 60 min.
This powerful documentary takes an in-depth look at the devastating
effect that U.S. policies have had on the Indigenous people of
America. Using beautifully crafted imagery, it presents a chilling
case for what many believe is an ongoing genocide of the American
Indian. Featuring interviews with some of the leading scholars and
exponents of Indigenous struggles, alongside revealing insights from
those who work and live on reservations today, The Canary Effect
creates a link between the past and present in a unique way never
before explored on film.
